Post 13.1 HPLIP multifunction and scanner

    openSUSE-13.1 KDE-4.11.3
Acer Revo RL70 Nettop PC AMD E450 4GB RAM 750GB HDD
HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi multifunction printer/scanner/fax both USB and Ethernet connections have been tried.
Users were all added to the "lp" group.
This is a production machine at a remote office, so I have limited access for testing..

Works as a printer, but scanner front-ends (i.e Skanlite, SimpleScan and Xsane) fail to connect to the scanner.
    This is reported in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=843508

The method I used to work round this bug:
I did all this from a bash session over ssh.
    Remove HPLIP and /etc/hp/*
Download the HP HPIP installer from sourceforge and run it. Provide the root password when asked.
After the installation, I used YaST (ncurses) > Hardware > Printer > Edit
to set the page size to A4 and make this the default printer.

The Scanner and print functions seem to work normally. Fax has not been tested.

    Code:
    ray@giulia:~>
    ray@giulia:~> sudo zypper --non-interactive rm OpenPrintingPPDs-hpijs hplip hplip-hpijs
    ray@giulia:~> sudo rm /etc/hp/*
    ray@giulia:~> cd Downloads
    ray@giulia:~/Downloads> mkdir hplip
    ray@giulia:~/Downloads> cd hplip
    ray@giulia:~/Downloads/hplip> wget -Nc http://netcologne.dl.sourceforge.net/project/hplip/hplip/3.13.11/hplip-3.13.11.run
    ...
    ray@giulia:~/Downloads/hplip> bash hplip-3.13.11.run
    ...
    ray@giulia:~/Downloads/hplip> sudo /sbin/yast2 printer
    ...
    ray@giulia:~/Downloads/hplip> scanimage >image.pnm
~Thank you for sharing an interesting problem.

No issues here with the stock HP drivers for my Deskjet F4500. Works like before.

I have two HP network connected printers and one has a scanner and both work fine under openSUSE 13.1. Here is the HP Printer Utility:

Here is a blog post on how I installed my HP printers using hplip:

HP Printing using the hplip Package in openSUSE - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

I feel if you follow this procedure, everything will work for you.

Initially on a new install of 13.1 the scan function was not in the HP toolbox as an option for my HP c8280 all in one scanner (12.1 and prior never had any issues)
    1) installed HPLIP (HP-toolbox) from Yast
    2) give the user lp permission
    3) run hp-toolbox
    4) add > advanced > manual > enter IP address of printer
    5) Yast > scanner > it should find the HP c7280 but you have to click edit and I selected one of the listed drivers for my model
    6) go back into HP-toolbox and select menu : Configure > Preferences > Commands Tab > add "skanlite" to the line for scan (without quotes)
