    Question Screen Saver for Suse 12.3/Gnome and/or XScreenSaver

    Hello, I'm a newbie..

    I have noticed that Suse only dims the screen or turns it off for a screen saver.

    I have found XScreenSaver that I seem to like, but it doesn't seem to auto activate.

    I have added it to the startup group, not sure if I did it correctly though.

    How do I get an actual working screen saver/lock screen on Suse 12.3?

    Thanks.

    The answer depends on what desktop you use.

    Here is one choice for GNOME: software.opensuse.org:

    I use KDE where you get many more choices.

    Hi!

    I like Gnome because it is so untraditional to the Standard "windows" style start menu.

    How do I get to the settings for gnome screen saver?

    Hi
    It's removed by design, not sure of the status but it may make it back
    one day...

    You could try this
    http://erikimh.com/gnome3-replace-gn...-xscreensaver/
    YMMV.

    You can set some things via settings power and/or privacy.

    I downloaded XScreensaver before posting on here, but it seemed that I couldn't get the Gnome screen saver to be disabled and replaced with Xscreensaver...

    I didn't perform all the steps mentioned in the article you provided here..

    Any thoughts on why I couldn't get Gnome Screen Saver disabled?

    ==>Choose and enable screensaver
    using a terminal window (left win/meta key ==> type terminal)
    type xscreensaver-demo and hit return/enter in terminal
    It will give warning"The XScreenSaver daemon doesn't seem to be
    running". Accept it.
    Choose mode ==> random or one screensaver
    choose preview to look at screensaver and file==>exit

    ==>Change gnome lock to greater value than screensaver
    using a system settings (left win/meta key ==> type system settings)
    change brightness&lock ==> set screen turn off value (must be greater
    than what you set in screensaver tool)

    ==> Add xscreensaver to start up
    Alt+F2 ==> type in gnome-session-properties ==> click Add ==>Give name
    xscreensaver and ==>Gvive command xscreensaver

    All done enjoy

    Question Re: Screen Saver for Suse 12.3/Gnome and/or XScreenSaver

    I just updated to 13.1 tonight...still seem to be having troubles getting xscreensaver to work. The Gnome lock screen kicks in. The only way I see the screen saver it AFTER I wake it up from sleep. Then I can see Xscreensaver.

    Any thoughts.?

    Ken
