Thread: USB flash is not mounted automatically

  1. #1

Default USB flash is not mounted automatically

I did upgrade notebook from opensuse 11.3 to 12.2
Everything was smooth except one: now Gnome Nautilus does not want to mount USB flash disks automatically.
Looking at the logs I see that kernel and udev identified flash correctly
In order to force automount I need to issue command:
    Code:
    # udisks --mount /dev/sdb
Now Gnome shows pop-up with mount and eject options.
After mount I can see it is mounted under /media/<DISKNAME>

How to fix automount function without need of manual "udisks --mount" command ?

    Thank you!
    Kirill

Is it possible to "create" a new user and check whether nautilus works fine there ?

    Thanks for suggestion.
I'v made a new user but problem is still the same.
Nautilus shows pop-up and mounts only after manual #udisks "kickstart"

Did the upgrade *go well* ? i think udisks2 is the standard library on 12.x series.

What type of upgrade? How did you do it?

    Online upgrade
    method
    Offline
    upgrade method

It was offline upgrade using DVD media. And "upgrade" option was selected during install.

There are errors during udisks-part-id, but it is true: there are no partitions on this flash - FAT fs is laying right on /dev/sdb.
    Code:
    # fsadm -v check /dev/sdb
fsadm: "vfat" filesystem found on "/dev/sdb"
    fsadm: Executing fsck -p /dev/sdb
    fsck из util-linux 2.21.2
    dosfsck 3.0.10, 12 Sep 2010, FAT32, LFN
    /dev/sdb: 4472 files, 446310/488701 clusters
Both # mount /dev/sdb /media/mountpoint and # udisks --mount /dev/sdb work correctly using vfat filesystem
    Code:
    # mount
    /dev/sdb on /media/2F91-21B0 type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0077,codepage=cp437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,showexec,utf8,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks)

Then one of the 3 links I gave has extensive info on things to do after
you do that sort of upgrade to complete it. Please read and apply.
