Default Problem with installing new fonts

Please help. I just install the OpenSUSE 12.3( Gnome desktop) and i can't install any new fonts. I try to copy and paste the fonts into the truetype folder, but it won't work. The OS wont let me paste anything in there. What should i do?

What specific directory are you trying to place the files in?

Download the font file named <abc>.ttf etc and dump them into

    /home/<loginName>/.fonts folder

You may need to press ctrl+h to show hidden folder inside /home/<loginName>/

if .fonts doesn't exist in /home/<loginName>/ path then you need to
    create it
