Question How can I install maven?

    Hello everybody,

I just installed OpenSuse 12.3 few years ago. I want to continue a project and I need the maven package. I searched in YaST but I didn't found any package related. Also, I searched in Google how to install Maven in OpenSuse but it seems that nobody had this issue yet.

So... How can I install maven?

    Thanks!

I assume you installed it some *days*/*months* ago. 12.3 was not available years ago

Search for software packages here :- http://software.opensuse.org/

For example Maven for various versions of openSUSE can be obtained here http://software.opensuse.org/package/maven
Think twice before installing from Home repos.

Use firefox and click on this link to start installation fro openSUSE 12.3.

    So fast!

Thank you man. I type "years" instead of "days"

I just installed maven with the 1-click-install that you said me, it was so easy, but I didn't noticed about that page to install packages. Why YaST doesn't show these packages too?

YaST shows only packages available in the repos you have subscribed to (and those installed, even if you unscubscribed to the repos later). There are thousands of repos, how many packages would then be shown when YaST would look at all of them. And how many times would it take to visit all of those repos to make a list every time that you start YaST > Software management?

As pointed out by hcvv you YaST needs to refresh meta-data for all the
repos that are configured each time it starts which is time consuming .
Hence we need to restrict number of repos in YaST . Also mixing lot of
repos in YaST causes many issues like system crash after update etc .

It is very important that you keep number repos in YaST to a bare minimum:-
The following are the repos you need on a day to day basis
    OSS,Non-OSS,Update,Non-OSS-Update,Packman

If you have nvidia / ATI or any graphics card a repo for that card

Avoid factory and other repos .

Even one-click will add repos ,hence you should be careful when handling
    YaST.

Note:- If in doubt please post questions in forums.
