Thread: Linphone not loading.

  1. #1

    Default Linphone not loading.

I have opensuse 12.2 installed, and Linphone 3.5.2-88 installed, but it will not load.
Details appear in the Taskbar for a fraction of a second, then disappears.
    Would appreciate any help.
    Regards,

    Missing/wrong dependencies?
Run it in a terminal window and post the output you get.

Start it from a terminal instead, see if there is any text written, and
    post it here.

I doubt that those ALSA messages make it crash.
It's more likely that your installed linphone is version-incompatible to some libraries you have installed.

    Where is your linphone from?
    Code:
    rpm -qi linphone

    Summary : Web Phone
    Description :
Linphone is a Web phone with a GNOME interface. It lets you make
two-party calls over IP networks such as the Internet. It uses the IETF
protocols SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and RTP (Realtime TransporT
Protocol) to make calls, so it should be able to communicate with other
SIP-based Web phones. With several codecs available, it can be used
with high speed connections as well as 28k modems.
    Distribution: Multimedia / openSUSE_12.2

Ok, that's the version from Packman.

Try to switch back to the version included in openSUSE 12.2. Does that one work?
    Code:
    sudo zypper in -f linphone-3.5.2-3.1.2

And so now it loads; Any chance that you can provide some insight, as previously I've been advised to use pacman,
and, all of my updates have been Through opensuse notifications.

    Regards,
Well, for multimedia stuff it is generally better to use the Packman versions, because they enable additional codec support f.e., which openSUSE is not allowed to do because of legal reasons. Also they provide updated versions of some stuff.

In this particular case (linphone), you can just as well use the openSUSE version. There are no additional features in the Packman version for 3.5.2 AFAICS.
Actually the packman version would be 3.6.1 already and there would be additional video support, but that one doesn't build anyway and therefore is not available at the moment.

As you now have the openSUSE version installed, the update applet won't switch that back to the Packman version.
So just keep everything as it is now, I would advise, especially if you can live without video support.

    Another problem has arisen; When I attempt a call, the message;
Could not parse sip address appears, any enlightenment?
