    You could try downloading manually
    32 bit: http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...4.1.1.i586.rpm

    64 bit: http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...1.1.x86_64.rpm

Not sure which you are using

Also might be worth disabling ipv6 in yast> network settings >
    needs a reboot
    Leap 15.1_KDE

If you can remember zypper/yast both acts the same for me. Yast becomes zombie process after sometime.
Well, didn't you say it hangs AFTER downloading, when it starts to install the first package?
Then all the packages should be in /var/cache/zypp/packages already.
(all packages get downloaded first before any of them are installed)

Also, you could just try to install one/a few packages with RPM.
At least we would know then if it is libzypp or RPM that hangs.

    @caf ipv6 is(was) disabled.
How many times would I be able to download files manually.

    md5sum test result:
    linux-5qz6:/var/run/media/root/Store1/Sofy/#Bootable-Isos # md5sum openSUSE-12.3-DVD-x86_64.iso

    fad87909023222943bb22cb74b9bef86 openSUSE-12.3-KDE-Live-x86_64.iso

After burning the iso's verifcation check was done without problem.

OK, so it seems to be libzypp's fault.

There is already an update in testing which fixes some similar problems:
    Index of /update/12.3-test/x86_64

Try to download those packages from there and install them using rpm:
    zypper-1.8.16-1.10.1.x86_64.rpm
    libzypp-12.13.3-1.11.1.x86_64.rpm
    libsolv-tools-0.3.2-2.10.1.x86_64.rpm

    Maybe those solve your problem?

You have to look in the logs of the live system that is running
(/var/log/), and, in the logs of the system that is being created, after
the partition is created and mounted - I think in /mnt/var/log.

Once I copied the live logs to a usb stick.

OK after updating zypper and libzypp, zypper patch downloaded 10-15 packages then again hanged.

I have been monitoring zypper.log and these are the things caught my attention:

Have you tried to remove the whole /var/cache/zypp yet?
Don't worry, that's only a cache, zypper will recreate it.

Please, do not use bold, it is difficult to read, it is rendered as
    uppercase for me.

Please use code tags to post that - and do not add any formatting like
fonts, colour, bold, etc. It is the '#' button.

The hang happens when retrieving. Is that "downloading"? Or is it
    getting from local disk?

If the problem is at the download phase, I would change the repos. The
definitions are under "/etc/zypp/repos.d/", just edit the files to point
    to a suitable mirror.

If the problem is when getting the files from the local dir... well,
either libzypp, or local disk problem. Are you mounting any filesystem
    over the network or something?
