Thread: Google Chrome Apocalypse

    Default Google Chrome Apocalypse

So Bandcamp doesn't support the version of Google Chrome I had. Said I needed a new one. So I tried to get a new one. I got the Google Chrome Stable 32 or whatever it's called file and tried to install. It said it wouldn't do it because I already had it. So I went into Kpackagemanager or whatever it's called and deleted Google Chrome so I could reinstall it from this file, hoping that this would fix everythikng. Instead now I don't have Chrome at all because it gives me this error when I try to install. [PK_TMP_DIR|dir:///var/tmp/TmpDir.8VCdI4] Repository already exists. I had to copy that by hand because it wouldn't paste in because Firefox is a horrible browser. I'm having a nervous breakdown over here, please help me get Chrome back, I can't even make a new text post on Tumblr right now, Firefox won't let me.

so i've googled the hell out of this stuff
    i've tried zypper
it says i don't have the repodata
and i can't find anywhere on the internet where it says how to get the repodata
so i guess i'm gonna have to backup all the stuff i want on this computer
burn the newest version of opensuse onto a dvd and reformat with it
(apparently it's still 11.4, i tried to update it as well but the repodata stopped that too)

I'm not sure how you've pasted that, but I can't read it. You'll need to remove the tmp repository, followed by a refresh. It looks like it has the alias PK_TMP_DIR, so

    Code:
    zypper rr PK_TMP_DIR
    zypper ref
Try adding Chrome after that. The Chrome rpm should add a repository for updates from Google. I have

    Code:
    http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64

What version of openSUSE are you using? 11.4 is no longer supported, and you'll have a hard time find software supported on that system.

so the thing i said earlierabout getting an iso, copying my files to a dvd and reformattingthat would probably be the best thing?

Personally I do a clean install (reformat). I even format /home, as many changes can be made over several releases. A distribution upgrade is usually recommended for jumping one release, not two or three. In doing so, you would have to remove your old 11.4 repositories.

11.4 is supported via the evergreen project - read this and apply:

    openSUSE:Evergreen

However, not all repositories are maintained. Apparently, the multimedia
repo is not, so you have to disable it.

Or, you might attempt to upgrade to a newer version, like 12.3,
    carefully reading these documents:

    Online upgrade
    method
    Offline
    upgrade method

Chapter 16. Upgrading the System and System Changes

    openSUSE 12.3 Release Notes

However, I think that any of those procedures would be too complex for
you, so the best thing would probably be that you instead install 12.3
    fresh.
