I installed LXDE. That too does not work. I had an old Cinnamon installed too. Even that does not work. This means that the problem is not with KDE, its with every DE other than GNOME. GNOME was my pre-installed DE. I am not being able to switch to kdm either. Something is fishy here in my system...

    Thanx...

If the OP wants to make sure that there are no packages from 12.1
    installed, this query finds out:

    Code:
    rpm -q -a --queryformat "%{INSTALLTIME}\t%{INSTALLTIME:day} \
    %{BUILDTIME:day} %-30{NAME}\t%15{VERSION}-%-7{RELEASE}\t%{arch} \
    %25{VENDOR}%25{PACKAGER} == %{DISTRIBUTION} %{DISTTAG}\n" \
    | sort | cut --fields="2-" | tee rpmlist | grep "openSUSE 12\.1 \
    | less -S

above (in your post #12) i see that part (maybe all) of this problem
is with a VM, and this thread probably should be moved to the correct
    forum http://tinyurl.com/8xrn2nt so the VM...<br /> problem

I don't have Virtual Box installed in my system. Moreover, this error was there since I installed OpenSUSE. It's not about KDE, no other DE runs, except GNOME. And this problem is only limited to my user. I have GNOME, KDE, LXDE and Cinnamon installed.

    Thanx to all...

That's not all the output, there are missing fields; the output has very
    long lines.

Assuming you run it correctly, and you just pasted it wrong here, all
those packages below are from 12.1, so you need to upgrade them to 12.3.

That can not be true. You posted this error:

    Code:
/etc/X11/xim: Checking whether an input method should be started.
Failed to connect to the VirtualBox kernel service
Failed to connect to the VirtualBox kernel service
The word "virtualbox" is clearly there... so you do have some thing of
virtual box installed or configured (improperly).

As I recall Vbox driver is now installed by default. But this system is messed up so hard to say what is happening. And in any case that should only be a warning and not a show stopper.

I checked YaST and found that I have these packages of Virtual Box installed in my system:

    Should I remove them?

I also have Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS installed in my system. I have Virtual Box in Ubuntu and I do use it.
    Thanx again...
