Thread: Notes widget background doesn't change with theme, is always black

  1. #1

Default Notes widget background doesn't change with theme, is always black

Although I liked the new dark default plasma theme in 12.3, I soon noticed that I'd prefer a lighter theme like Air. So I switched back. The problem: The Notes widget didn't switch with me. No matter what widget theme I select, the notes widget remains black. I have also tried editing the theme through system settings, and the background of the Notes widget has remained black. And since the text on the widget it black as well, that is rather unpractical.

Could anybody be so kind and let me know where there problem is and what I can do about it? I would like the background of the notes widget to change with the theme I apply.

I have tried what this guy suggests in what seems to be a similar setting, but with no success.

    Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately that is not possible without compiling the source code.
That's a limitation of the Notes plasmoid, it has the default background color hardcoded to yellow (this is patched to be black by openSUSE to fit into the theme), but the default text color is taken from the theme, unfortunately.

Your best choice right now would be to select a theme with a text color different to black. Maybe "Slim Glow" would suit you?

Or you can change the background color for each note plasmoid individually by clicking on the "wrench" symbol on the handle that appears when you move your mouse over the applet.

And feel free to create a bugreport at http://bugs.kde.org/ about this.

And next time, please tell in that you talk about KDE. That is not obvious for everybody.

Hi hcvv, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought referring to "Plasma" in my post was an unambiguous hint that I am using KDE. Furthermore, KDE is considered the standard DE in these circles, so I would not think any further, even more explicit mention would be necessary. Still, sorry for the inconvenience.

    @wolfi323:
Well thank you for the explanation! Too bad it is hard-coded. But I have never come across the option before to change the background manually. This will be good enough for me, at least for now. I might file a bug some other time when it particularly annoys me and I have more time on my hands. ;-) Thanks a lot!

Well, as a non-KDE user, plasma means nothing to me! And as a non-KDE
user, I really don't care what KDE users think is standard or not. So
I'm with Henk, please be more explicit.

That will only be clear to those that know thje ins and outs of KDE. Please be explicit. After all, you want help from people, thus you shouuld make it easy for them. Talkng in riddles will make them skip your thread.

KDE is only offered as the default during installation for those that do not know what to decide. A lot of people use Gnome here and a considarable amount use XFCE and others.

Presenting a good docmented problem case it not easy. One should allways try to leave a minimum amount of possibilitiees to not understand, or worse misundertand, you

What is the problem with starting your thread with something like: I use openSUSE 12.3 and KDE .....
Gnome users can then immediatly skip the rest wityhout having to ask themselves what the .. is Plasma, do they mean ionized matter, or what?

Well to be fair, "plasma" and "12.3" were among the first 10 words of the thread. I am usually very careful to make clear statements.

I would expect anybody proficient enough to answer technical questions on this particular forum to know what "Plasma" is, but that is just my opinion. :-) Thank you guys for your replies, and really sorry for having been unclear. I've taken mental note for next time. I guess I'll put it in the title.

It is true that by default colors come "hardcoded", however, every segment is changeable:
