X2go keyboard layout problem

Hello,

I’m using X2go and although it works flawlessly, there’s a problem with the keyboard layout, arrow keys and page up & down don’t work:sarcastic:. Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?

Regards.

Hello Bezoutsidentity,

I fail to see the connection between what you describe and this being in the Network/Internet forum.

This will be movd to hardware and is CLOSED for the moment.

And, before I forget, please Bezoutsidentity, the first thing you should add after this is open again is the openSUSE level you are using. nd whne you are using this keyboard in a Desktop Environment, you should add also of course which DE. No way we can guess this with even 30% chance on having it correct.

Moved from Network/Internet and open again.

I can’t see the point to move this thread to hardware section, I’m talking about a software for remote access. So what’s the point of doing this?

agreed – the thread was entirely on point in the networking forum.

I read it as X2go being a keyboard maker/type. There was nothing there pointing to a network connection.

But those who know the secret words here will be correct. I will move it back. and appologize for the inconvenience.

Moved from Network/Internet and open again.

FWIW, Henk, I also saw no connection to “networking” in the OP in this
thread.

+1

i’m just pretty sure this is not an openSUSE problem and the OP
should visit the helpers at x2go.org

then, if it is not an x2go setup problem, a bug might be in order.

i mean, i just spent 15 minutes at the site trying to find out what
linux kernels/whatever the software supposedly supports, and i can’t
find anything…and, i will not read docs for something i’m not
using and i never heard of.

as far as i know there are several well proven software means to have
remote access to openSUSE.

Well, asking about it here is certainly OK, but it would have been good
to not assume everyone knew what x2go was.

I saw “keyboard problem” and thought “hardware”. Not knowing what x2go
was.

Going to their website, though, I also didn’t get a very clear picture of
what it was. What I gather is it’s an NX-like terminal server solution.
They need a clear description of what their project is on the front page.

Well, at least they are not alone in offering a solution to a problem that is not described. rotfl!

If I wrote it here is because I wanted to know if anyone had tried it and had to deal with this problem. Now I see it’s not very popular here.
Anyway, I recommend it as a true substitute for VNC.

To resolve the problem, open a console in the server side and write the following command (change the model and the layout to yours):

setxkbmap -rules xfree86 -model YOUR_KEYBOARD_MODEL(e.g. pc105) -layout YOUR_KEYBOARD_LAYOUT(e.g. us) -option ""

I’m wondering if X2go is better than FreeNX. It seems actively supported, unlike FreeNX. These days NX is important, as is active support and security.

I used x2go on 12.3, 12.4, 13.1 and currently on 13.2. It performs better then freenx IMHO. My server has been upgraded without a reinstall and I’m trying to work through some problems publishing a kde and xfce desktop.

It works great if I just publish a console window which I use to launch any applications i want to use. I would be happy to assist anyone. I’ve been working on an x2go appliance on suse studio.
