    Default Missing 'fakeroot' Command

    Hi all,

I have an OpenSUSE 12.3 install here that I'm trying to build and install Panda3D [1] version 1.8.1 from source [2] on. The build stops with the following error:

    Code:
    sh: fakeroot: command not found
    Storing dependency cache.
    Elapsed Time: 2 sec
The following command returned a non-zero value: fakeroot rpmbuild --define '_rpmdir ~/panda3d-1.8.1' --buildroot '~/panda3d-1.8.1/targetroot' -bb panda3d.spec
    Build terminated.
The 'fakeroot' command isn't available in Yast. It does appear to be available at software.opensuse.org [3]. I am unfamiliar with OpenSUSE. Can I trust the packages from this source?

Apologies if this isn't the right sub-forum for this question. It was a toss-up between Applications and Software.

    TIA

before you can get to the 'button' to download fakeroot for your
verions, you will see a warning: Please be aware that the following
packages are from unofficial repositories. That means they are not
reviewed by openSUSE and may contain unstable or experimental software."

more, i can not add or say (not because i am limited by any rule or
anything like that, just there is no more to say except: i have used
many of the repos there with no ill effect--personally i do not
download from "home:" repos unless i happen to know the owner by
    name/reputation..

others routinely download whatever they find in home repos and
    whatever...

well, i wouldn't be paranoid if so many were not out to get me!

    ymmv

avoid home:... repos on a general basis
go with devel:tools in this case.

    Thanks DenverD.

Since I'm not familiar with the owners in this case I won't go the repo route. According to this page:

    Specifying File Attributes

I might be able to eliminate the need for fakeroot altogether depending what Panda3D's build system is trying to do.
