    Default StarTech USB2VGA

I am trying to set up a dual monitor on OpenSUSE 12.2 (x86_64) using a StartTech USB2VGA adapter. The device is recognized in the hardware list in YAST. I see the following:

    45: USB 00.0: 0000 Unclassified device
    [Created at usb.122]
    Unique ID: xJ63.F5Pwikxc329
    Parent ID: ADDn.0j9+vWlqL56
    SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.6/1-1.6:1.0
    SysFS BusID: 1-1.6:1.0
    Hardware Class: unknown
    Model: "Magic Control USBVGA"
    Hotplug: USB
Vendor: usb 0x0711 "Magic Control Technology Corp."
    Device: usb 0x5100 "USBVGA"
    Revision: "0.01"
    Speed: 480 Mbps
    Module Alias: "usb:v0711p5100d0001dcFFdsc00dp00icFFisc00ip00"
    Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown
    Attached to: #48 (Hub)

Yet, when I go into configure the display and monitor and click multiple monitors, I get the error saying I don't have a single desktop spread across multiple monitors.

Could someone point me in the right direction on how to set the USB2VGAadapter for OpenSUSE?

    Thanks.

Its not an error. Unfortunately, due to the underpinnings of the way that X works, what works fine under Windows, and the behaviour that most users would expect/desire, is currently an impossibility under Linux. I've described the background and options available to you in several other threads; see my posts in these threads for relevant info or links to such.
