Default Problems serialing in with screen on openSUSE 12.3

When I serial into a device using screen, I will get the input ALT+GCAP signal being sent from my computer to the terminal. It goes through both without me typing in anything or will override what I am typing in. Happens in regular intervals, at about 1 second. I did not have this problem with 12.2. Any help would
    appreciated.

What in the world are you talking about? I would suggest switching to tmux, its much nicer and does not do anything crazy.
After thinking about this for a second, have you checked that none of your keys are stuck down?
