Thread: gnome-shell 3.6 often freezed in 12.3

  1. #1

    Default gnome-shell 3.6 often freezed in 12.3

The problem happened as below list:
    1. open a gnome-terminal.
    2. run 'su -' to change to root
    3. run gedit in gnome-terminal as root and enlarge gedit screen
    4. touch left top hot corner
At that time , gnome-shell freezed and can not run Alt F2. But mouse can move.

I try to cancel all extension in ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions and restore default themes, but the problem still exists.
When the problem happened , I use Alt Print K to kill X .
After I go back to GDM , I can not log into Gnome , it display "Oh. ...."
But restarting machine can log into gnome .

    What is the matter?
    I use 12.3 amd64 arch.
    Thanks

If you want to edit a file with gedit the procedure is

    gnomesu gedit <path_to_file>

I even can not run 'sudo gedit'.
When I run it , it gives :
    Code:
    No protocol specified

    ** (gedit:1459): WARNING **: Could not open X display
    Cannot open display:
Run 'gedit --help' to see a full list of available command line options.

Is there any news on a fix for it? There doesn't seem to have been any activity on the bug report. Thanks all.
