    Default KMail Problem

    Hello all,

Since yesterday Kmail is acting up when I try to send email.
    The error is:
Failed to transport message. An error occurred during authentication: SASL(-4):
no mechanism available: No worthy mechs found

    OS version: openSUSE 12.3

    Kmail: 4.10.00 "release 1"

    Any idea why this happens?

    Thanks,
    Dick Davis

This happened to me when the login changed from "Plain text" to "Login" on the mailserver side. Check the authentication setting with those provided by the mailserver.

° Perfection is not gonna happen. No way.

Have you tried checking in another mail client (such as thunderbird) so you can isolate the problem to kmail and rule out mailserver changes?

    Farcusnz;
I have not tried another mail client, since everything still works in Windows 7, thus if there is a mailserver change this would have caused problems there too.
I installed openSUSE 12.3 a week ago and KMail worked perfect, both incoming and outgoing.
Again, this problem started Saturday, on Friday all was still fine.

ummmm . . . if you have tested it in windows 7 then you have tried another mail client.

OK, I tried another mail client. Today installed Evolution. This can send. Kmail however still produces the error I started this thread with.

    Who has a solution?

Something to check (rather than a solution). Do you have the required cyrus authentication packages installed? I've seen old threads where that has caused problems like you're experiencing. I don't use kmail (I prefer thunderbird), but for reference I have
    Code:
    rpm -qa|grep cyrusus
    cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.25-21.2.1.x86_64
    cyrus-sasl-devel-2.1.25-21.2.1.x86_64
    cyrus-sasl-32bit-2.1.25-21.2.1.x86_64
    cyrus-sasl-crammd5-2.1.25-21.2.1.x86_64
    cyrus-sasl-2.1.25-21.2.1.x86_64
    cyrus-sasl-gssapi-2.1.25-21.2.1.x86_64
    cyrus-sasl-digestmd5-2.1.25-21.2.1.x86_64

    deano_ferrari,
Thanks. I checked the rpms. They are all present and accounted for. The mystery still remains: Why all of a sudden does the sending generates the error?

does the problem persist if you delete the send account (smtp) and set it up again anew?

Any updates in the past few days that might have triggered the problem?
everything works for me with kmail in kde 4.10 but I am using openSUSE 12.2.
