Default How to update multiple red packages at once?

    Hi,

Sometimes bunch of packages become red in the software management in YaST2 - it looks like versions of packages becomes lower than the ones that I installed.

I want to just update them (downgrade) to make red go away, but since in QT software management I cannot select multiple packages and select update unconditionally, I have to do it one by one. Is there any way to do this at once? Maybe through command line interface?

    Best,
    Joon

I right click, select "all in this list", then "update if newer version
available". Ah, but in red means there is no newer package available...
    Hum...

    are you running Tumbleweed?

if not then what you are seeing is unusual...please tell us what
version you are using and show us the terminal output *and* input, as
well as the beginning prompt and exit prompt, from

    Code:
    zypper lr -d
copy/paste the in/output back to this thread using the instructions

I have a red one now and then (e.g. when Packman decides to rollback a version) and I have one or two permanently (installed from repos I prefer to have them disabled normaly), but this is a bit much. Like dd I guess there is something going on there with repos. Like a (KDE) repo removed and another one added. Or else the KDE repo you use (not the official OSS one) downgraded it's packages massively

yes....i think something is rotten in Denmark..

i also so think i know how to downgrade all of the packages with one
simple motion--but, i don't want to give that prescription until i
have a better understanding of the system..

    otherwise, system poof

Yes it was KDE 410 repo's downgrade. I originally had a lot more red ones, but I manually downgraded some over time. Nevertheless my system has been stable. I don't know if it is a problem in my system, but I have seen this kind of massive downgrade several times with newer KDE repos, so I thought having bunch of red pacakges in KDE repo was not a big deal. It is just a pain to downgrade them.

I would do update unconditionally for the KDE repo but it seems then it will reinstall every package (black) there, not only red ones.

It all depends on how stable (or dangerous) you want to live. Adding repos, specialy with newer (often called "better", but that is something to be proven) versions means leaving the stable "official" openSUSE version you have and this involves risks. Risks that seem to be not to great in the cases of something liek KDE:Stable, but when you go beyond .........

Could you please let me know of the method? I was wondering if there is a smart way to use zypper to do it.

Indeed. When I first started using openSUSE back in 11.2, I was burn a couple of times by adding unstable repos - by mindlessly installing the highest version of a package from software search. These days I am much more careful when I add new repos. I think in 12.1 "newer" KDE repos were giving me some hard time, but I have been mostly happy with 12.2 KDE 4.10 repos.

No, I'm not using Tumbleweed. Also please note that even though I have Kernel:Stable repo, I did not install any packages from that repo.

    Code:
    $ zypper lr -d
