Default Raid problem, will I lose the XP partition?

    Hi
Trying to install 12.3 on a laptop with XP and 12.2 gives an error "system
error code was -3030" when trying to format the / and /boot partitions with
    ext4.

During the installation process the installer asks if I want the Raid disks
to be managed and to date I always reponded "no" because I have been afraid
of losing the XP partion. Am I likely to lose the XP partition if I chose
    "yes"?

I am afraid that I do not know enough about Raid configuration, so any
    suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

I can only guess because the details are unclear but it appears that the installer has detected a RAID, possibly fakeraid, setup. Any RAID setup requires (at least) two identical partitions. So if you are using RAID with XP, you will have to reconfigure your whole RAID setup to accommodate another operating system. Any configuration will probably ruin your XP setup.

Can you give some more details about your current XP setup? You can get the details by selecting the Expert or Custom partition setup and just copying the information the installer shows you about your current setup and then aborting the installation. (No actual changes to your setup are made until much later in the installation process.)

John, thanks for the information. Last night I tried installation again,
letting Yast manage the Raid setup and that worked without any problems.

I am afraid that I do not exactly know how XP was set up, there are 2 same-
sized disks, but one contains XP and the other opensuse , /boot partition
and /swap. It does not sound to me like a Raid configuration? Sorry for
being unable to provide more information, I just do not know.
Before (without management) I could see 2 versions of each disk, now only
    1).
    Regards, -G-

For some reason some makers are setting single disks as RAID for unknown reasons (cough MS cough) other then to make things difficult.
