  • I cannot seem to install GTK themes in 12.3.
  • I have Gnome-Tweak Tool installed from the main repo and am using
    that to install the themes.
  • I have attempted placing the themes in:
  • usr/share/themes
  • &
  • .local/share/themes
  • In Tweak Tool do the following:
  • Select Theme
  • In the ‘Current Theme’ Drop down menu I have approx 25 themes
available - if I select one of them the appropriate boarders and
    window decorations appear.
  • In the 'GTK+ Drop down menu I only ever have three themes
available - Adwaita, Greybird and High Contrast
  • None of the other themes are available

Really appreciate any help.

Hi
Are they Gnome-Shell themes? Possibly they are not gtk3 themes.

DO you have a link to an example you are trying to use?

Do you have the theme extension installed?

Hi Malcolm

They are GTK 3 themes - I have tried the Gnome Cupertino and Mediterranean Night theme packs from www.gnome-look.org
I have extracted them and moved them both to the usr/share/themes folder.

Two things I have discovered since:

  • At one point (I am unsure why) the themes did appear as options in the Tweak-Tool

  • I selected them and all appeared okay

  • I was then unable to open any further windows

  • It would appear that the app would be opening, and then after approx 5 seconds would flash on the screen and then disappear.

  • Further I have successfully installed the Greybird GTK3 theme that is available from the repo’s.

It has me well and truly stuck.
Thanks

Hi
You shouldn’t need to move them, if you have the user theme extension
installed (and they are zip files) they should just add… Look through
the actual Gnome-Shell area on gnome-look.org.

There does seem to be an issue with the themes, I need to ask my Gnome
friends as to what is/isn’t working properly, that will be tomorrow
though.

Put them in home/username/.themes

Also, I’ve found that many of them cause gnome-shell to crash so be careful.

Hi
Thanks for your help.
I have moved the themes to
Home/use/.themes
and am still having the issue.

Any further advice is greatly appreciated
