Thread: Setup bumblebee and primus in openSUSE 12.3

That seems to have fixed that, although bumblebee still doesn't seem to be working properly:

As far as i can see, there is some misconfiguration in your files. Your Xorg is reporting:

    ModulePath set to "/usr/lib64/nvidia/xorg/,/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers"

    and it should be:

    ModulePath set to "/usr/lib64/nvidia/xorg/,/usr/lib64/xorg/modules"
Look into your /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf and make sure the fowling line is there:

    XorgModulePath=/usr/lib64/nvidia/xorg/,/usr/lib64/xorg/modules
Or try to remove and reinstall bumblebee, and the correct configuration files should be reinstalled.

    OK, it's working now.

With openSUSE 13.1 I'm getting bad performance with bumblebee. Previously you could disable texture tiling as a workaround (Issue: Steam and optirun (bumblebee) :: Steam for Linux Limited Beta), however with openSUSE 13.1 this no longer seems to do anything.

Hi, do you know if Bumblebee is working in OpenSUSE 13.1?

Even after some reinstalls my bumblebee configuration is working fine on OS 12.3 with kernel 3.7.10. Using the solutions from this thread
also CUDA programs can be run.

But I have made a very negative observation in that regard:
I have recently purchased a GTX 560 for my main PC and ran a GPGPU program of my own creation on it.
The performance gain when going from 520 GT to the 560 GTX was a factor of 10, still acceptable b/c the 520 GT was a cheap card.

But(!) even the older 560 GTX is still by a factor of 10 (approx) faster than the GTX 660M in my laptop. From this I have concluded, that
using bumblebee even in the following configuration
    Code:
    optirun -c yuv --no-xorg ./c2d_cg_linop_thrust
still looses a lot of performance. (c.f. approx 10 times slower)

Now I heard that starting with Kernel 3.12 there is better interop with Nvidia cards and optimus. But before I start demolishing my working configuration
I wanted to ask whether anybody has any knowledge/experience w.r.t performance and operability of the dGPU with kernel 3.12 or newer.
