I have just installed open suse 12.2 and during installation I chose GNOME. This is very different comparing to 11.4 which I got used to. Is it possible to place that narrow black bar (start manu) on the bottom like on windows or like on 11.4?

That is the “new” GNOME called GNOME shell. You might use “fallback mode”.
Alt+F2==>gnome-control-center==>Details==>Graphics==>toggle “Force Fallback Mode” ==>logout==>Login. To add applet to panel you may need to press “Alt” and then right click to bring up panle menu
