Thread: How to update mesa

    Default How to update mesa

I added a link to yast:

    Version: 12.2http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_12.2

Then started yast, looked for mesa 9, found it, checked it, and installed it.

I am doing something wrong though, because version 8 is still in use.

I also tried update, but that did not get me version 9 either.

Mesa 9 may break your system's X windows. I not sure whether 12.2 can handle mesa9

I have some issues with in game video's. ( catalyst 13.2 beta driver)

    Because of this:https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Team_Fortress_2

    Video problems

If you see GL errors in the terminal or video glitches in-game then your video drivers might be outdated. You need Mesa version > 9 and openSUSE 12.2 currently ships 8.0.4 by default. Add this repository and do a vendor change for all packages. You need to switch the repository in YaST software management ((or do zypper dup --from " X11: XOrg ")) to achieve this. Do not commit to the upgrade if it wants to remove either fbdev or vesa drivers. A newport driver is removed with the upgrade, and that is fine.

I do not see errors but on windows these in game video's are 100% fluently
On suse there is stuttering, at teh start of every new scene, in Serious Sam 3.

since you followed a sdb article https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Team_Fortress_2 it might be safe to use mesa 9
Can you now open a new user profile and check whether games work well there

    I have changed my mind.

In 14 days 12.3 is released. It has mesa 9, and a newer kernel.

Allot less risk at messing up my system.

I am lost on how and what. I might have already installed 9, but its not working yet.
But in 14 days there will be 12.3 so why bother ?

I am bound to agree with you here. Though I will say I use the Xorg repository day to day. It is a little buggy at times but has much improved free drivers. I think these versions will be in 12.3, so you won't be missing out.
