Question Firefox/Thunderbird crash warning when merely closing application.

In very fresh install of openSuSE 12.3 x86_64 using OBS Mozilla repo with latest versions of Firefox and Thunderbird. This on an ASUS K53E notebook.

Whenever I close either I'm getting a dialog window about application crashing. Not true, application is merely closed by user.

Any way to get rid of this unwanted behavior?

    Code:
    > rpm -qa | grep MozillaFirefox
    MozillaFirefox-branding-openSUSE-6.1-3.1.x86_64
    MozillaFirefox-20.0-2.1.x86_64

    > rpm -qa | grep MozillaThunderbird
    MozillaThunderbird-17.0.5-61.9.4.x86_64

Take a screenshot of that crash pop up
    upload pic to SUSE Paste
Then cross link the image here
This would give a better idea about what is really happening.

Also try running the application from terminal/console and paste output within [code] tags. USE the '#' button in the forum editor to insert code tags.

There might be corruption of profile. Close application. Rename ~/.mozilla to ~/.mozailla-old (doing this will create new profile when application is opened again) and re-open firefox to check whether *odd* the behaviour is still there.

imo: instead of using whatever you find in OBS, i'd recommend you try
using the latest versions released by openSUSE, for openSUSE 12.3 --
those would be the ones which flow in from the update repo by running
either YaST Online Update or "zypper patch"..

those versions which have been released via update should run as
expected...and if not someone in this forum might be able to help out
    with learning what is wrong...

of course, if you wish to test unreleased OBS software you are free
to do so (thank you for testing!)...but questions about problems when
doing that should be directed to the sub-forum named
"Pre-Release/Beta - Questions about pre-release versions of openSUSE
Linux (software & hardware)" at http://tinyurl.com/2du7r4s

because that is where the software testers hang out....and it is them
who might also be running that version...and, can help you decide if
you should file a bug report or not....(that is, it is unlikely
someone can help you find a work around or otherwise solve the
"unwanted behavior" on your system...unless of course it is only on
your system and caused by incorrect setup, or whatever)

ahh, I have the same versions the OP has and I am not running anything but apper for updates.

Update: whoops it seems via apper I only have
    Code:
ee@linux-aa3c:~> rpm -qa | grep MozillaFirefox
    MozillaFirefox-20.0-1.8.3.x86_64
    MozillaFirefox-branding-openSUSE-6.1-2.2.1.x86_64
    lee@linux-aa3c:~>
I guess that the details do matter.
    Kernel: 4.12.14-lp150.12.7-default x86_64 bits:
    64 Desktop: Gnome 3.26.2

i was just going by what the OP said (that it came from OBS)..perhaps
    i do not understand.

do you have the same crash warning when closing? if not, maybe you
can help the OP discover why the two systems have different reactions
to the same action..(maybe just assume the OP's system is damaged,
corrupted, setup incorrectly, etc etc etc...or that bug is required,
    whatever you two determine..)

forgot to mention, i do not know if you have enabled mozilla repo(s)
outside of oss, non-oss or update, and it was from there that you too
installed the same version as the OP....but, it is possible to do so
with apper without taking extra steps (as would be required in either
YaST or with zypper....like using the "switch vendor" or "--from
    <alias|name|#|URI>" YaST/zypper switch)

it is a well documented danger that if the system includes enabled
and updated repos other than those basic five **safe** repos (see the
paragraph beginning with "IMPORTANT" in this post
http://tinyurl.com/33qc9vu) that running apper can be a
VERY dangerous system killer...because it may introduce conflicting
software in a way which none of YaST Software Management, YaST Online
Update or "zypper patch" would do..

are you using qtcurve for your gtk theme?
There is a bug with qtcurve / gtk in openSUSE 12.3 kde that causes Firefox and Thunderbird to crash on exit.

Thanks everyone for helpful replies. Trying to answer all in one post. I have Mozilla 12.3 repo enabled in >Yast>Software Repositories>Community repos. That is from OpenSuSE Build Service. However current versions show MozillaFirefox vendor as 'obs://build.opensuse.org/mozilla' but MozillaThunderbird vendor is 'openSUSE'. So only Firefox is from OBS yet both had same issue.

And I should have mentioned that I am using KDE4. It appears that QTCurve is the problem. Changing >SystemSettings>Application Appearance>GTK Configuration>Select a GTK-2 theme to oxygen-gtk corrects this problem.

In retrospect I could have been more through in my original post.

After creating the *paste*. I right click and choose *view image* on SeaMonkey{The option might be different on other browsers}. It then gives me image url http://paste.opensuse.org/images/37100491.png

I can then share it as a pic using the "image" icon in the post editor
