The install works fine and comes back with successes all the way around. When I try to start it by clicking on the icon nothing happens. When I try to start it via the command line I receive the following:

I’ve tried re-installing the modules and it still doesn’t work. I cannot find anything in the logs to explain what’s going on.
This is not an answer, just a suggestion. I tried another VM(cannot recall which one probably from VMWare avaiable via Software Repositories) and failed and then searching for a solution I got to Oracle VM.
Why don’t you try to use the Oracle’s VM? I was able to install it with the instructions written by swerdna https://forums.opensuse.org/content/59-how-install-virtualbox-opensuse-11-4-12-1-tumbleweed.html

Could be problem specific to your desktop environment. Looks like GtK error and what are you running ? Try installing gnome and launching it see if your get the same result? Just a suggestion not sure what this error means.
FYI, OpenSUSE 12.2 is not officially supported by VMware Workstation 9. You could run into all kinds of version compatibility problems. If you really want to run VMware Workstation, I would stick with a supported host OS, like CentOS or Ubuntu.

In all the years I’ve used VMware Workstation, running it on SUSE or
openSUSE has never caused me a problem that wasn’t trivially resolved.

Right.
I have the same experience with vmware player.
Not so with vmware server, which was abandoned and people managed to get
it running for a year or two more using patches and tricks.

Yeah, I think since they made ESXi available for free, they didn’t think
it was necessary to continue to support server. That’s a shame, because
there certainly was a place in the market for the server product.
