    Default File Chooser interface question

Applications such as GIMP and Inkscape do not use the Dolphin File Chooser interface, I believe it is a QT interface.

When this file chooser opens, by default hidden files and folders are displayed in the menu.
I can't seem to find a way to toggle hidden folders off, which in Dolphin I would do with "alt+."
When in my home directory, lots of hidden files mean a lot of noise in the interface.

Is there a way to toggle off display of hidden (.filename) files ?

Perhaps a more interesting question, is there a way to get these applications to use the Dolphin File chooser, as is implemented with KDE integration with Firefox ?

    Thanks

Right click in the field where the directories and files are shown and
    deselect "show hidden files"

Yes, that is the easy part.

But what about his second question:
Perhaps a more interesting question, is there a way to get these applications to use the Dolphin File chooser, as is implemented with KDE integration with Firefox ?
I also would be interested in having the same interface on all places (and I hate it to have first to click a file/directory and then still have to click a seperate Open buton for something to happen).

    Thanks, Chris!

And along with Henk will watch to see if someone can address the second question (move to Dolphin based chooser).

I think it is better to mention to it as the KDE way of doing things rather then Dolphin. It works like this with all KDE programs and it worked (still works) when we had Konqureror as KDE file manager.

Yes Chris, we understand that, but hope that more people are reading this. "United we conquer" and all that

The two applications you mention (gimp and inkscape are GTK applications) use the gtkfilechooser interface, so it would not be possible to use the Dolphin file manager without a rewrite.

pygtk: wheres the file chooser that gimp, inkscape etc. use? - Ubuntu Forums

This approach should work for GTK apps that use the Nautilus file manager:

Caio Tiago Oliveira - Opening Dolphin from Firefox and other gtk applications (on Ubuntu)
