    Default kde vs gnome: opensuse V12.2 2013

    As of today, does anyone know the percentage of kde vs gnome users?

    Looking forward, does there appear to be preference towards one or the other?
    Regards,

    do you mean in all of linux or just openSUSE?

    If all of linux I would imagine probably gnome (in some form) because of the popularity of Ubuntu.

    In openSUSE my guess would be KDE, but I really don't know for sure. I'm not sure anybody would know because once you download the DVD that contains multiple DEs there isn't really a way to know which was installed.

    Well, there's an unofficial poll here:

    There was a poll thread last year. You might want to take a look:
    Which Desktop Environment do you use in openSUSE?
    openSUSE Leap 15.1; KDE Plasma 5;

    As the installer DVD defaults to KDE

    But that was a compromise - GNOME is listed first in the list, KDE is
    selected as "default" but is second.

    Both are equally supported - so to the OP, the recommendation is try both
    and see (and use) which one you prefer/meets your needs.

    Once upon a time DVD defaulted to GNOME . Then there were a lot of discussions in the community and now the DVD defaults to KDE. I think it atleast shows the options in the main menu instead of hiding other DE in some hidden pages :-)
