My Java plugin in Firefox does not work.

When I go to

http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

in firefox I get an error that says that “icedtea plugin error.” and
something more. I do not want icedtea java, I want Sun’s java, which is
also installed.

I display the tools/plugin window, it says that I have both iced tea and
java™ plugins. I click the disable button for icedtea and restart
firefox, but I get the same error and icedtea is again enabled.

I had to rename /usr/lib64/IcedTeaPlugin.so as
/usr/lib64/IcedTeaPlugin.noso :-/

Is there something else to tell FF to actually do disable the icedtea
plugin?

Re-enabling automatically on its own is odd.

What happens if you disable both Java plugins and restart FF?

IIRC in 11.4 I did

But you might find the openjdk-plugin has been replaced in evergreen updates by the icedtea-web package
Which may need to be removed to use the Sun plugin

Maybe because it thinks that 1.6 should not be used, and reenables the
other one :-?

In my experience when I used to install the Java version, I removed the Ice tea plugin using Yast. That’ll definitely save you from rewriting things. Also since you want the Java version, while you’re in Yast remove the OpenJDK that comes with Opensuse by default. Earlier versions of Libre office needed the OpenJDK. I’m not real sure but It seems to me the last time I used the Java version of java (in 12.1) The LO that came with it could use & I think I enabled it to use then Java version 6 update 33 IIRC.
Since 12.2 came out & with all the problems coming out about Java under Oracle I personally now just use the OpenJDK & iced tea.
For that reason I’m not that sure about Java’s relationship to LO these days, though I’m very sure about the browser plugin parts.
One more thing you may find this helpful it’s what I used:

i had only SUN Java installed before the move to Evergreen, and just
checked and only SUN Java remains…

that would be my first step…but, then how to tell the system to use
the SUN: maybe follow the YaST images in Carl’s pix ??

hmmmmmm, the graphics shows 1.6.0-sun, while the latest current SUN is
1.7.0_05, so . . .

as far as i can tell the LO available in 11.4E’s repos works as expected
with SUN 1.7.x (though the truth is i have little need for “office
software”, and there could be stuff in there which does not work, but
i’ve not seen that.)
