My plasmoids doesn't keep their place

Hello!

My plasmoids doesn’t keep their places on the desktop. I have to unlock widgets and move plasmoids to their right places each time I reboot the computer. What’s wrong with my config?

Thanks.

Can you check whether this happens in a “new” user profile ?

Sure. I’ve just created new user and checked its plasmoids behavior. There was no problem.

You know what that means right

Sounds like some kde settings got messed up

Try unlocking widgets
Go to Activities and create a new one, the type you want and try and configure it. If you use the activity Desktop Icons. Make sure under the settings > Display
You check the box Lock in Place.
There are certain times that the icons will move anyway if you are configuring the settings. I consider it slightly buggy

I’m not sure. What’s your advise?

OS is good. some sorry of profile settings got corrupt. Happens when you play around too much or migrate from one version of software to another.
Or the system is just buggy.
==>i would try out what caf4926 says

If my tip doesn’t work, we can reset kde settings, but all the look and feel you have will be lost as will some other data that you might want to keep. Such as kmail, knode, konversation…data and settings?

I see I need to switch to the newly created user and configure it. After creating new activity “folder view” plasmoid is ok but taskbar still appears at the centre of the screen.
Or maybe you know what the file I need to change with default config?

OK, let’s do it. I’ll backup my home.

To reset kde
You might need to write this down unless you have another computer

You need to have auto login disabled, if you normally type your password to login then we are OK
If not you need: https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/how-faq-forums/unreviewed-how-faq/412554-disable-auto-login.html

When ready, logout:
At the login screen, see the red power symbol with a handle, click the handle to get the drop down and select Consol Login
Now login with your username and password
Now type the following

mv .kde4 .kde4-back

hit enter

Now do

su -

root password

reboot

Login and all will be as if you just logged in for first time

And how to reset KDE?

How can we get this console login . I don’t see this option in GNOME login tool :frowning:

The direction I gave you above do that.

All it does is rename the hidden folder .kde4
But we have to do it out of X

All your personal files are safe. It’s just the stuff in .kde4
But as we renamed it and didn’t delete it, you can still get to it in the folder .kde4-back

Obviously you can get out of X by doing ALT+F1

But after you click your login name in the gnome login window, doesn’t that open up the option buttons

I did reset. Now it seems to be OK. 20 minutes for configuring and I’m done.

Thank you very much for participate.

P.S. I just switched to another session by Ctrl+Alt+F1, logged my user in, typed “rcxdm stop” and here I am:)

First i get this

and then on clicking one of the users i get this

If i use ALT+F1(on login screen) will it help ?
I have used ctrl+alt+F1, ctrl+alt+F2,… from inside the DE.

Any of those take you to the text mode consoles.

Is there a possibility of a lock from other level(DE level) when we switch using ctrl+alt+F1
so i can safely mv/del “.kde” folders safely without worries about lock from GUI ?

No, whenever you are going to move/delete/edit desktop config files you
have to exit that desktop first. You risk serious corruption if you don’t.
