Thread: Multiple Monitors tab in "Display and Monitor" settings missing in KDE 4.9.5

  1. #1

Default Multiple Monitors tab in "Display and Monitor" settings missing in KDE 4.9.5

In System settings under Display and Monitor there was a tab called Multiple Monitors, at least it was there in KDE 4.8.5, as shown here:

After upgrading to KDE 4.9.5 using the openSUSE KDE repos this setting tab has disappeared. The problem is, that this tab contained settings related to window behavior when using multiple monitors and these settings are really needed.

Does anyone know if it is an intended change and these settings are available elsewhere, or is it a bug?

My system is openSUSE 12.1 32bit, using openSUSE KDE repos both for 4.8.5 and for 4.9.5. This problem is present also on another box, runniing openSUSE 12.2.

to be sure, we probably have to wait for someone running 4.9.5 _with_
the Multiple Monitors icon available in the systems settings to drop by,
but i _think_ the availability of that icon (and those settings) is not
determined by which KDE you use, but rather by the capability of the
video card AND video driver in use...

that is, maybe you had one driver in use with 4.8.5 and now a different,
    less capable one...

you didn't mention, but i guess you have a video system with
proprietary, or OEM crafted drivers available ?

or, you might try booting from the 12.1 Live CD and see if the multiple
monitor settings icon is available there...

Although I'm using KDE 4.8.5, the tab is missing because it's no longer needed. In the content pane of "Size and Orientation" all detected displays (and even some interfaces which are built into my machine but not actively connected) are listed.

Also, because I have an nVidia GPU, and perhaps in response to an earlier post I made, the nVidia X Server Settings applet is available and can also be used to configure multiple displays.

I'm still using KDE 4.8.5, so can only offer general advice. Almost certainly the KDE upgrade is not complete. You might want to post your configured repos:
    Code:
    zypper lr -d
What KCM modules are listed as being present?
    Code:
    kcmshell4 hardware --list

Thanks for chiming in here tsu2 - so it is a design change

As noted, the module has been dropped. As for it no longer being needed, that's debatable (or perhaps more simply a case of Martin being Martin)
