Rsync and Secure Copy Gui Clients

Dear all,

I am looking

  1. for a gui client for copying files using rsync

and

2)a file browser that can work over ssh connections.

Is there anything for xfce or something that does not depend on gnome/kde libraries?

Regards
Alex

When you use X-forwarding over SSH, you can run any X program in the other side and see the window on your side. And that includes file managers.

grsync and luckybackup.

You could try the FUSE sshfs (ssh filesystem) to mount the remote ssh hierarchy on your local system. Then you could use your normal file browser. I’ve only briefly played with it, so I can’t comment on it’s stability and reliability, but it appeared to work just fine. There is an openSUSE package for it.

any opensuse packages?

you need to find http://software.opensuse.org/search
go there, click the tool icon and set it to look in your distro/version,
click the “Show development, language and debug packages” box, type in
(say) luckybackup and click “Search”, follow your nose to the “1 Click
Install” link…

caution: most here (including me) recommends you keep the number of
enabled repos down to the main four, so after installing with a 1-Click
i always use YaST Software Management or zypper to disable and stop
automatic updating of all those not recommended in the paragraph
beginning with “IMPORTANT!” in this post http://tinyurl.com/33qc9vu

ps: you will find other gems of helpful info in that same thread of many
posts…

grsync is in openSUSE-12.2-Oss.

luckybackup you can install via repo KDE:Extra
Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra/openSUSE_12.2

You could use sshfs to mount the remote file system on your local
machine, then use whatever file browser you’re used to.
