Thread: Windows Partition marked as not active after opensuse 12.2

Default Windows Partition marked as not active after opensuse 12.2

I can not hibernate Windows 7 now because the Windows partition is marked as not active after installing opensuse 12.2. If I reactivate the partition how will that effect Grub 2. Grub 2 is booting from an extended partition where suse 12.2 is installed. I don't want to activate the windows partition and then make my system unbootable into either windows or suse and have to use the recovery CD and a lot of extra time.

You can setup opensuse to be booted via the Windows boot manager.

See Using the Windows boot manager
    and
Using Windows boot manager and updating

That way, you can still get back into opensuse, even if the Windows partition is set active.

You think that is the cause? I will have to try that in my laptop.

At worst, that grub will not run, only Windows.

Only the first marked partition will boot. If that is Windows, then only
Windows. If it is the extended partition where grub is, then grub.
Reverting the change is easy enough.

That you. The information was very helpful with the link to use the Windows Boot Manager.
