Default VMPlayer 5.0.1 on OS 11.4 won't start

Looking for assistance in getting VMPlayer 5.0.1 to start on OS 11.4. Mouse pointer shows as busy for 30 seconds after clicking on icon then stops with no VMPlayer activating. I did run VMPLAYER (as SU) from terminal and got a few messages, one seemed relevant:

process 10340: Attempt to remove filter function 0x7fadf8033980 user data 0x7fae0af60d70, but no such filter has been added
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace
    Aborted

I don't understand what this means.

    Thank you...

And previous versions of vmplayer, do work? Version 5 might be too new
    for 11.4 which is old.

Never got a previous version of VMPlayer to work, so gave up in favor of Virtualbox.

    11.4 too old ?

    I never considered that possibility.

11.4 is past its end of life (cite:
    http://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime, no longer receiving security
patches through normal means. It therefore should not be exposed to
    untrusted networks
    unless it incorporates Evergreen, http://tinyurl.com/4aflkpy

I'm wondering now what the average length of a OpenSUSE release is ? Different distros appeal to different lifestyles - and mine now is basically as a user that is willing to tinker a bit, but not too much. I have a triple boot system with two 'other' distros so it is quite interesting to experience the differences.

    Still better than Windows...

shorter than it used to be...like you i like'em to last a while (which
is why i'm running 11.4 Evergreen)..

the basic answer is each release is good for 18 months...with a new
release every eight months (target, sometimes they slip--12.1 did)

    graphic here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Timeline_openSUSE
    words here: https://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime

if you want longer, plan and like stable/dependable you should consider
SUSE Linux Enterprise, or hop on a Evergreen (or other longer distros
with a longer life.. Red Hat or CentOS spring to mind)

or you can go the other way and take the Tumbleweed, it never ends...but
    is constantly changing...

I don't have a link to the exact definition, but it is something like
the duration of two releases plus two months. That is, version 'a' is
released, then 'b', then 'c'. Two months after 'c' appears 'a' is EOL.
It normally should be 18 months, but as 12.2 release was delayed during
the summer, 11.4 EOL was also delayed.

So, stansaraczewski, you should activate the evergreen update repos
ASAP. The maintenance is limited to important security problems only,
    and a bit slow :-)

As to VMplayer and 11.4, when I had 11.4 in this machine it simply
worked. Now I have 12.1 here so I can't say if it works currently or not.

Try starting vmplayer from an xterminal, so that you see error messages.
Post them here inside code tags.

better yet, start over in the Virtualization forum,
    http://tinyurl.com/8xrn2nt

(but it is easier to just use VBox!)

Don't know what it means. Did the configure phase succeed?
