The ethernet card has not been detected. The LAN cable does not show any blinking lights.** ifconfig** does not show any eth0 or eth1 entry, just shows ‘lo’

Those links will get you later wireless drivers than you have in the standard
kernel.
There is no 1969:1090 device in any kernel (yet). You will need a driver from
the vendor.

Hi Malcolm,
I added your repo from ‘Index of
/repositories/home:/malcolmlewis:/TESTING/openSUSE_12.2’
(http://tinyurl.com/bycz7cg)
But when i tried to install alx-kmp-desktop or alx-kmp-kernel i got
an error message that nothing provides alx-scripts=0.
What do you suggest?
Hi
Ahh, will need to refine the spec file then. I’m not at home this
weekend, so may not be until Monday before I can revist…

Once again, malcolm to the rescue.
I will keep that rpm on my hd, every time there is a kernel update
I have to compile alx. Reputtion point will be added again to you in a moment.
Edit: The reputation button is telling me to spread it first before giving you another reputation malcolm.

Hi
I need to fix the script error There is the update repo, so
shouldn’t need to rebuild, but always handy to have a src rpm around…

Hi, I’ll wait till Malcolm comes up with a fix.
Hi
OK, it’s now rebuilding, there are two files to download and install
now;
alx-kmp-<your+kernel_flavor>
alx-scripts
It’s just a helper script (alx-enable) to switch between either alx or
atl1c, it needs to be run as root user. It just saves having to
manually blacklist the other driver.

It still doesn’t work. I installed alx-kmp-desktop and rebooted my laptop. Not only did the Atheros card not get detected, even my wireless would not come up. I had to uninstall alx and its script to restart my wireless.
Is it a problem with the blacklisting? What is the solution?

LAN card still not getting detected and wireless too is down.
Could make wireless work only after removing alx-kmp-desktop and
rebooting.
Hi
Ok, then don’t worry about the script, lets just add a blacklist for the
old driver. As root user you need to
edit /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf and add;
blacklist atl1c
Reboot and see how that goes, also check that the alx driver is loaded.

I assumed that the alx-script would automatically put that blacklist entry in blacklist.conf. But anyway i did as you said, installed alx-kmp-desktop again and still no use and again no wireless.

What do you wand me to post from lsmod?
No hardware issue — it is working in windows.
Hi
That the alx module is loaded (it should be) and also do you see the
driver in use now for the output from lspci -nnk
From lscpi -nnk | grep -iA2 net i do not see any driver in use for Atheros Communications AR8162 fast ethernet. The drive for wireless card is detected but as usual no wireless.
When i install alx-kmp-desktop, alx-script comes as a dependency so it is always there. Why do i need to separately add an entry in 50-blacklist.conf? Because running alx-enable only outputs the message module atl1c not detected — this is normal.
No output from dmesg | grep -i eth0
So finally do you suggest to knock at the doors of the kernel guys.
