Hoping someone with more knowledge than myself about GIMP
can help me with an issue. I have a graphic I created by
cutting some art from an image and pasted into a new image.
The problem is when I save the image in a format other than
…xcf, the original image appears as well as the part I cut
out, so in effect it is like I did nothing. I have checked
the layers and there is only one. I have exported as
an image type that does not support layers, I have flattened
the image, I have recut and pasted into a new image, I have
done a copy visible and repasted, all to no avail. Any
ideas? I used the Pathing tool and Selection from path
to cut the piece I wanted.
Since version 2.6, you don’t use “save” but “export” to save an image in another format.

Don’t know what to tell you, mine has a save as, then you can set the
extension type and it will spawn the export dialog.
Sorry, it’s in 2.8. If you use gimp 2.8 some day, you won’t use ‘save’ and ‘save as’ but ‘export to’ and ‘export’ from the file menu.
