Default V12.x and Symantec Backup Exec

As of the latest build, Backup Exec 2012 does not support opensuse 12.x.
Has anyone worked around this issue and gotten it to work?
I've installed it, and it claims to be successful, but the service fails with a kernel isue - beremote general protection ip... message.

So I do not know anything about Symantec Backup Exec, but when you use the term Service, you make me wonder if it is related to our use of systemd now? Services are often driven from a script placed into the /etc/init.d folder, but not everything there works as intended. I have no idea how much you want to get into just what this backup wants, but you may need to do a far amount of self help here because I don't see much activity for commercial applications here. Basically, your help should come from Symantec and if they say its not supported, sounds like you are on your own. Anyway, have a look at a couple of solutions I wrote to deal with systemd to get two different type of services to run.

systemd and using the after.local script in openSUSE 12.1/12.2 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

Its the best I can come up with and good luck.

Please provide the specific error message you receive, enclosed in code
tags (use the # button in the advanced editor). It's usually very
difficult to work without a specific message, and generally not a good
use of anyone's time to try to diagnose a non-specific message.

    Thanks

I am a Backup Exec Technical Support Engineer and as youve already mentioned openSUSE isnt supported. Even so, have you tried to back it up using what was formerly User Defined Selections in the File server option in the Add Server wizard?

I found a solution that is working for me. Backing up openSUSE 12.1 with Backup Exec 2012.
The short version - Use a hex editor to modify the file /opt/VRTSralus/bin/libbesocket.so
-Search for the sting 79 1a (Should occur only once)
    -Change it to 78 1a
    -restart agent

I can't seem to find a name to credit this solution correctly, but you can see the whole process at:
