The most reliable method I know is to upload all messages to an imap
server, in the same machine or in the local network. Then download to
    the target client.

Wait for the answers of others, that is not the only method :-)

Alternatively you can use the default import path in Kontact/Kmail: File > Import messages. This was what I did when KMail 2 were introduced, and it worked fine. Working in Kontact, I created a new directory under 'Local Folders' and imported the whole old KMail structure into it rather than inbox to inbox and so on, though you may of course organise it the way you prefer.

    OpenSuSE 13.1, KDE 4.11.5, 64bit
    Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, AMD FX8350, MSI GeForce GTX 760, RME HDSP9632, 16GB HyperX Kingston DDR3, Samsung 840-Pro SSD 128GB, WD Desktop Black 1TB, Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 750GB
