Thread: Dolphin looses column view in 12.2?

Default Dolphin looses column view in 12.2?

It seems that KDE filemanager Dolphin lost column view in 12.2. Honestly, I was a bit shocked to realize this as this was a killer feature for me justifying my use of dolphin and even KDE. I hope the column view will be reinstated on short order. Could somebody recommend a desktop environment with a file manager that supports a column view?

    Thanks a lot.

If you consider it a regression, it's down to kde not 12.2

It is no regression it is a feature

Citing the answer from Peter Penz in the linked comment:
You are right: The column view is not available anymore and also won't
be available in later Dolphin releases. The decision to drop the column
view was not easy. I myself liked the column view a lot and used it e.g.
for browsing my music collection. However the column view has obviously
been used by only very few people but was tricky and timeconsuming to
    maintain.
so it is a KDE upstream decision that we users do not need that.

How do they know? My wife uses it all the time and nobody ever asked her.

They obviously used the crystal balls every KDE developer gets when
    introduced into the project.

    Could just downgrade to previous release, here's 4.7.2 (32)(64) and 4.7.4 (32)(64)
I'm using 4.7.4 dolphin version on 12.2 KDE 4.8.5 and it's working fine.

Krusader still has "column" view; although maybe not quite as pretty as dolphin it is more powerful. Midnight commander is another one.

I just create an account to log in and say that I use the column view and I think it's great.
I'm trying new version of ubuntu as I always do because I hate to discover those non undestandable change of software specifications.
Evoltion don't mean change everything. Keep the old version and make and then do the update when all the features are available.
I m always three steps late from newest releases for that. So bad because KDE is great.

Well that's KDE,some features stay and rock for ever, and some other get trashed,as speaking for myself never really used that column view, and I'm a fan of the new compact view from KDE 4.8 onwards!
