Thread: Nautilus refuses to recognize .msi file and install through Wine.

  1. #1

Default Nautilus refuses to recognize .msi file and install through Wine.

I am on OpenSUSE 12.2 Gnome 3.4 and can not get Nautilus to allow Wine to install an .msi. It appears that a bug was reported way back in July [Bug 695105] Nautilus can not correctly open .msi file through wine. Has there been any work done on this? I have sucessfully installed .msi files in Nautilus on every other Gnome 3.4 distro I have tried. This appears to only be a problem on OpenSUSE.

    Hi
I don't use wine (I use crossover), have asked my Gnome contacts as to
    the status.

Maybe you could post the contents of the desktop file (as per comment
#1) from one of the other distros.

Sorry, but I did not post the bug report, I just saw it when I was looking into why my .msi file would not install. I tried it on Wine 1.5.6 and 1.5.13. Nautilus just does nothing when trying to open it.

    Hi
As indicated it appears to be a wine issue, either add a comment in the
bug (forum login is the same for bugzilla) or wait for my Gnome
    contacts...

The bug report does say that it is a Wine issue, but why has every other distro I have tried with Wine installed (which would be at least 20 differnet ones) see and install .msi files just fine? It appears to be an OpenSUSE issue in reality.

Yes, but wine, not Nautilus. Probably the mime type and/or the desktop
    file.

That's why would be interested in a desktop file from another distro.

Just tested on OpenSUSE KDE 12.2 and .msi file will not install there either. So it is a "Wine" problem that only appears in OpenSUSE.

Have you tried it from the command line in a terminal (that might give
you a better message what the real problem is)?
    One of the following
    Code:
    wine msiexec /i whatever.msi
    wine start whatever.msi

Let me see if I can quickly find an msi installer to see what it does on
    my machine.
