Default openSuse 12.2 Evolution Alarms Missing Under KDE

Running openSuse 12.2 with KDE and Evolution as my PIM. I missed an important appointment because the appointment alarm from Evolution didn't work. I found out that this was because the evolution-alarm-notifier wasn't automatically starting under KDE.

I had this same issue two years ago under openSuse 11.3. The solution is still the same and can be found at the same blog post I linked to two years ago.

I can't believe that this hasn't already been fixed. I can't believe that I am the only one running Evolution under KDE. I can't believe that there aren't more complaints.

What is everyone else using for mail/PIM?

I do not know what others use in KDE, I use Thunderbird, but that is of
    course without use for you.

Did you file a bug report back then in 11.3, if not do it now for 12.2
otherwise it will never be fixed. Maybe you are the only user who needs
that evolution feature running in KDE and others do not care if it works
    or not?

Thanks for your recommendation. I will attempt to refile a bug report.

I suppose that this is a possibility. If it is the case, it should also be a warning to me to find some other PIM/DE/OS. Alarms(pop-up notifications) seem like a fairly core requirement for a calendaring application or PIM. Do you suppose I am the only one using Evolution under KDE?

I'm not the only one using KDE am I?

Is evolution-alarm starting in your KDE session? You might try adding an executable script to your ~/.kde4/Autostart directory. Try

    Code:
    #!/bin/bash
    evolution-alarm
Make this executable and restart KDE.

Thanks for the recommendation, but your fix is not the right/best way to do it.

This blog post explains the proper way to do it. This is how it works under all the other desktop environments. Unfortunately openSuse keeps forgetting to add KDE to the autostart list.
