opensuse 12.1, kde, k3b burning 12.2 install disk

I keep getting this glitch on two different dvd lightscribe drives, Samsung and LG. ‘can’t write at 16x, switching to 17X’ . Can someone explain this? Thanks.

I wrote a posting on this thread suggesting that it should be moved to ‘applications’ (my posting disappeared, however).

My advice: use openSUSE 11.4 k3b, which seems to work much better than openSUSE 12.1 k3b.
If you use k3b at all.

Not an answer to your question, but it isn’t a good idea to burn disks at max speed. Much more susceptible to errors. Don’t take chances with the install disk, burn at low speeds.

Last week I burned the 12.2 DVDs on my openSUSE 11.4. It also said it would go for 17x. I took this for granted. I used the 64 bit DVD allready for an installation. No problem.

Took a look, there was an article on this matter a couple of years ago, but I cannot find the article right now. IIRC the issue is in calculating the speed of the burning device.
