SNMP Monitoring Tool

What is a good SNMP monitoring tool for Suse 11.3?

There is for example a snmp monitor plugin for collectd and collectd has
a web frontend, but I have no clue what you consider as “good”.
Beside that I do not know if that was available for the end of life
version 11.3 and if so where to get that for it.

if by Suse 11.3 you mean openSUSE 11.3, then that version has lived past
its end-of-life and you should install 12.1 (or next month 12.2)

but, if you mean SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP3 then you are in the wrong
forum, as these are the openSUSE forums and you need to be with the SLE
gurus over in http://forums.suse.com/

on the other hand, your question is kinda like "What is a good vehicle
for me? and not say if you want a car, bike, truck, airplane, hot air
balloon, or steam ship…etc

YaST turns up several SNMP tools…which ones have you tried, so far? or
at least define what you mean by “a good SNMP monitoring tool” like, do
you want a tool which sends root an email, or text message, or real time
gui you can watch or what is “good” to you…and what kind of
environment will you use it in…etc?

Hi dd
FYI, SLE 11 SP3 won’t be around until mid next year or so, it’s still
on SP2

see how much i know about SLE!! (so no one should ask an SLE Q here,
unless you are around, and inclined to answer)

so, he just needs to move to a supported/patched/secure version, and
then look for a tool that fits it.

Have a look at “The Nagios Network Monitor” tool. I haven’t used but
friends that have swear by it.
