thanks Carl for all your previous efforts and this info with warning...i
have questions, please:
- might this info mean that today it should be relatively safe to
upgrade my 11.4's KDE (as born) 4.6.0 to 4.8.x (using the same
instructions but the "/48/" repo)..
and
- since i've never done such 'bleeding edge' stuff before: can i ignore
your note's warning on 4.9 because things have now "settled down" in 4.8.x
i'm kinda looking to move a well running, very stable 11.4 into
Evergreen, and "test" the openSUSE LTS for a year or two...but, would
mixing in 4.8/9 be ill advised?
uncharted waters, for me (preferring stable to bleeding)..

@DD
Knowing your fetish for all things stable, I'd be inclined to say No.
Rather in your case, I'd say (because I know it's well within your skill set) to try your plans in a test partition.
All in all R48 should be good for you.
R49 is actually still a copy of Factory as far as I can see, but it basically what we'll have on 4.9 release proper on Aug 1st

Re: KDE 4.9 Upgrade
R4.8.4 is very stable for me in 5 computers running oS 11.4 and 12.1 with NVidia and ATI graphics, and it was noticeably faster than 4.6/4.7 loading apps. Dolphin works better also, less issues with drag-and-drop to hotspots. I only miss in-line editing of folder/filenames in Dolphin.

Re: KDE 4.9 Upgrade
Thanks for the heads up - I hadn't seen this repo. I did an update from 12.2 rc1 and it all worked fine.
