  1. #1

Default suspend hibernate dont work at first login kde4 , second login it works

Got some weirdness since i upgraded kde 4.8 from KDE:/release/48 to the new 4.9
suspend/hibernate doesnt work and in configure-desktop the powermanagment is grayedout red cross

But if i do ctrl/alt Bckspace or logout and get back in its all ok
hence i can do suspend/hibernate , so its not a big prob
But its not ok , did i miss something after upgrade ?
Btw if i login as root in KDE its all ok

Never log to a GUI as root, it causes odd problems.

well, believe it or not gogalthorp helped you!

helped a lot, even if you don't want to hear what was said and won't
    accept it..

the fact is that logging into the GUI of any unix-like operating system
has been a well known no-no since around 1987/88..

and the same hold true for openSUSE and all Linux distros today...

so many little things can get balled up when you log into the GUI as
root....it is possible that the problems you now encounter are the
result of system damages you did earlier..

and, personally i don't know how to track down those damages--they can
be anywhere, and have found it very unsatisfying to try to help someone
who will just kill their system again by logging in as root, or rudely
killing X (with ctrl-alt-backspace)...or insist on running the very
latest version of (say) KDE when they don't yet know how to get around
as root, correctly....and so i won't spend my time helping you
    straighten out your mess..

sometimes folks have to reinstall from scratch and learn how to do all
admin duties the correct way...those ways are discussed here:

    http://tinyurl.com/593e4c
    http://tinyurl.com/ydbwssh

and thousands of other places on the net..

you might try using YaST to add a new uers, then log out and log back
into to that new user and see if power management functions and
hibernate work...if so, you have probably (as root) damaged the
permissions of some power management files in your home directory..

    the hibernate thing i don't know .. ??

And for u the same ,Dude if thats all u can say , then better dont say anything at all

    1. I got this problem wich isnt related to a root-gui-login as i Dont login as root in kde
    2. If u 2 had been reading u saw its a User prob wich only applied for the 1st login after bailingout and relogin it was gone
    3. Maybe u just need to apply to reinstalling , i only installed 2 times - 1st time was suse 5.2 and a second time opensuse-10 due to hdd failure (it died)

Btw i did the root kde-login to test something as last resort , so plz dont bark
anyways i found the culprit due to a little debugging on Dbus
    so thx

OK, that's enough - this is not the place to engage in personal attacks.
If you don't like the suggestions that have been made, that's fine - but
don't engage in personal attacks or telling people to shut up because you
    didn't like their answers.

These forums are a friendly place and we will keep them that way.

    Thanks,
