Thread: File Manager Super USer Problem

Default File Manager Super USer Problem

Perodically when I try to start Dolphin as super user from File Manager - Super User menu, it doesn't open.. The little icon simply spins in the task bar and quits. After reboot, it again works as it is supposed to.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be and what I can do to fix the problem?

    Any and all info appreciated.

You could at least tell which version of openSUSE you use. And from you saying you use Dolphin, I guess you use KDE. But it is not nice to let us do all the guessing about things you know for sure.

It has been determined in another thread that you might want to modify the command used to start Dolphin in Super User Mode and remove the dbus-launch command as its not required and may be causing a problem. Right Click on the SUSE KDE menu icon on the bottom right and select Edit Applications. Navigate to System / File Manager / File Manager - Super User Mode on left and edit the Command: to remove the dbus-launch command so it says just 'dolphin %i -caption "%c" "%u"' then press the Save function near the top left corner. If you have placed any program icons on the desktop for Dolphin - Super User Mode, they will not be fixed! Remove them and recopy the modified Dolphin icon back to your desktop.

    Thank You,

    Thank You,
I have modified the menu as you have suggested. I did not see the thread you reference. I possibly did not use the right keywords when searching.

    Thanks for your help.

I am very happy to help rick71 and you must tell me the problem you were having, comes back after this change. Here is the thread about dbus: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/g...s-problem.html

    Thank You,
I read the thread and it seems I have, hopefully had, the same problem. If the problem reoccurs, I'll report it here. Hopefully the problem will be fixed in 12.2 and updates to 12.1.

    Thanks for the help.

Using dbus-launch to start Dolphin seems to be a KDE 4 thing but the problem with dbus-launch might be an openSUSE thing. I can say that the same command is being used in openSUSE 12.2 and it can be removed just as in openSUSE 12.1, allowing the Dolphin - Super User command to still work properly without using dbus-launch.
