Yup. I had 4.0.0.7 and now upgraded to test 4.0.0.8; no issues. Maybe
set your ulimit -c to something big so you can get a core…

Good luck.

There are several threads about this on the forums - maybe one of the
suggestions there would help.

If you launch from a terminal window, do you get any errors or warnings
of any sort?

From terminal I have to wait 2 seconds to get the next prompt but no
warnings, no errors, and no skype :frowning:

On another pc it start but crash on login, so I have no clue, I always
install the same software

I saw your thread so I thought I would update. It worked without a hitch.
I do use the Ubuntu 64 deb package converted with alien and have done for a few years now. This may make a difference with regard to dependency issues.

peteh100, the .deb file for amd64 that skypre provides is a 32bit skype,
see for yourself with the file command and if you use the ldd comman to
see the library dependencies fot skype my system have it all.

installed yesterday on Opensuse 12.1 64 (upgraded from 4.0.0.7 to 4.0.0.8)
Used the standard 32bit rpm from the skype website.
Runs without problem - so can confirm it does work on Opensuse 12.1

I installed the latest Skype on my PC here in Europe, and also using vnc on my mother’s PC (where her Pc is located in North America) with no problem. For both my mother and I it works better than the older Skype version. I simply followed the guidance here: SDB:Skype - openSUSE

i successfully installed this last night. followed the instructions for 64bit dependency install from: SDB:Skype - openSUSE

ie.

su -c 'zypper install xorg-x11-libXv-32bit libqt4-32bit libqt4-x11-32bit libpng12-0-32bit'

then, i downloaded the 4.0.0.8 skype rpm from: Skype for Linux - Free video calls, chat, IM, and screen sharing on Linux and installed with zypper.

only glitch was getting my macbook’s internal mic working which took a reinstall of pulseaudio.

Well, I’m feeling like an idiot right now T_T, when I install skype
4.0.8 I forgot to delete the old apparmor profile from a very old
installation of skype… I’ve said enough

 well at least she’s working now!

That’s probably why I’ve not had a problem then. Still, I wonder why they offer the 64bit and a separate 32bit if they’re both the same?

Because up until recently Debian had no native multi-arch support; So 32-bit software had to be repackaged as an amd64 deb.
