Thread: Still cannot receive files in the PC via bluetooth

Default Still cannot receive files in the PC via bluetooth

I thought the issue as solved when first writing here:
    http://forums.opensuse.org/english/g...ome-3-2-a.html

Indeed, my cousin managed to get bluetooth working in GNOME, either file sending and receiving. But the missing package seemingly was not something like "bluez-obex". He doesn't remember what package was since he went back to KDE, where bluetooth fully works out of the box.

So now I have the same problem:
I can send files from the laptop to the mobile with no problems by now. But I can't receive them from the mobile, when trying to send to the laptop the mobile just pops an error saying "file not sent" and in the laptop happens nothing. Tried also browsing the mobile from the laptop using the bluetooth icon in the GNOME taskbar. I can see the folders in the mobile's root, but when browsing the folders there are no files, as though I couldn't see them.

After a search I thought the missing package was obex-data-server, but I already have it installed. The mobile is a Samsung Galaxy Ace, and I'm still on openSUSE 12.1 x86_64 GNOME 3.2. Same openSUSE as my cousin, but his is 32 bit.

    Any help about this? Thanks.

P.D: regarding the device friendly name changing, I meant to be able to set the device an "alias" in order to just recognize who it belongs to, for example. Guess it's still about the file /var/lib/bluetooth/(mac_adress)/config...

While using bluetooth on Windows 7 I noted that receiving from the mobile or device also fails unless "telling" it beforehand to receive, in bluetooth icon on taskbar.

I thought it could be something similar on GNOME. Is it that I I need to somehow "enable" file receiving in a bluetooth setting on GNOME, as well as enabling device browsing? Either by twitching some setting or installing an additional package...
I remember my cousin said something like now having the "receive" option in bluetooth icon aside from the "send" and "browse for files" options...

Finally managed to get the PC receive from the mobile through bluetooth.

In the file browser Nautilus, I noticed Downloads directory is the only one with the sharing files message, mentioning that bluetooth sent files should go there. So I opened the Preferences button beside it and noticed that option "Receive files via bluetooth" was unchecked, so I enabled it. Then I tried once more sending a file from the mobile to the PC, and this time it was successfully received.

But then I tried browsing the mobile from the PC using the bluetooth icon in the "task bar" (I still don't know how's it called in GNOME 3.2, if someone could tell me...), selecting my device and picking the option "browse files". Still same problem: only able to see folders and folders inside folders, but not files. I don't know if this is a 12.1 x86_64 issue, but since 12.2 is coming anyway, I think I'll wait to try it on there...

    Something for you to consider.

Starting assumptions: You also prefer PC controlled multi-file capable transfers. The bluetooth device is already set up and paired successfully. What works for me (12.1 x86_64 + Gnome 3.2.1) will work for you as well.

Starting from the bluetooth icon in the "top bar" I can successfully browse files only via the Bluetooth Settings option! None of the other methods which ought to work seem to do so! When the Bluetooth Settings window opens, I select the relevant device icon and then select the resulting Browse Files option which then appears! I can then drag and drop selected files to another window.
