Thread: Difficulties with shutdown process from XFCE

Question Difficulties with shutdown process from XFCE

I try to work with the desktop environment "Xfce 4.10" occasionally. I have got difficulties to switch-off my updated openSUSE 12.1 system cleanly. I stumble on information like the following.

    /dev/doda/var/log/messages:
    Code:
    ...
Jul 4 16:19:19 Sonne sudo: gkr-pam: couldn't get the password from user: Conversation error
Jul 4 16:19:19 Sonne sudo: pam_unix2(sudo:auth): conversation failed
    Jul 4 16:19:19 Sonne sudo: elfring : pam_authenticate: Conversation error ; TTY=unknown ; PWD=/home/elfring ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/lib64/xfce4/session/xfsm-shutdown-helper
    ...
Is this unexpected situation related to the issue "The gnome keyring socket is not owned with the same credentials as the user login"?

I use some newer software components for my Linux system than from the images/packages that are distributed by the installation DVD for openSUSE 12.1.

Not detailed enough, sorry. What are those components, where do you obtain
them from exactly... How do you expect us to help if you withhold
information? We can not sit at your computer and find out, you have to
    speak up!

So, you are using tumbleweed, mixed with standard repos: that is a no-no.
And anyway, you would have to ask in the tumbleweed forum instead.

This concern does not really help to identify the software components for which I observe unexpected run time behaviour.
Would you like to suggest any update candidates for the involved open issues?

the software component causing runtime problems is most likely the
kernel...and most probably a kernel installed from the Tumbleweed repo..

as said, you should not mix Tumbleweed with openSUSE 12.1--that is a
known problem....best sorted out by the Tumbleweed experts in
    http://tinyurl.com/3ljwanm

i can't help because i've never used Tumbleweed, and as far as i know
    neither has Carlos..

    It is impossible.

You can not have mix any tumbleweed repo with the normal distro and expect it to work. I will
not even attempt to find out what exactly is wrong, its a waste of time. Decide what you want
to install, 12.1 or tumbleweed and install it, then ask again if you have problems.

I imagine that the package collection can be filtered for software updates that were taken from "dangerous" or "challenging" repository variants like tumbleweed.

It seems that I have got the special difficulty to perform this filtering on files from my openSUSE installations by a Knoppix session when I do not get it to work with ordinary permissions from my personal user account.
