Power Management Under Gnome 3 | 12.1

My monitor goes into standby after some minutes of inactivity. How do I turn this feature off ?

suse_kid, I ask that you open up a terminal session and run these two commands:

export DISPLAY=:0
xset dpms force on

-OR-

export DISPLAY=:0
xset dpms force off

Close terminal and sit back and see what happens. If it makes any difference, we can automate this process for you.

Thank You,

Tried both but monitor is still going standby.

Here are a couple more to try at the terminal prompt.

xset s off
xset -dpms

You might want to restart your PC before giving these two a try to separate yourself from any previous attempts. We can add them to a script or even to your $HOME/.bashrc file.

Thank You,

I tried xset s off. Didn’t work but then xset -dpms worked. How do I automate these codes ?

Lets give this a try. Since I don’t normally use Gnome, its a struggle for me to know the right answer.

  1. Select Activities
  2. Search on** alacarte**
  3. Open up Main Menu
  4. On the left side select Other
  5. Then in the Items List check Startup Applications then the C****lose button.
  6. Now Select Activities again
  7. Now Applications at top and** Other** on right
  8. Select** Startup Applications** and then Add.
  9. Enter the required command then Save and Close.

Here is what I did looks like:

Using Firefox, the picture above should show up for you. Restart your PC and wait to see if it works.

Thank You,

The picture you have provided, I cant find that window. Mine looks like the one in the video.

You have got to following the instructions exactly as given. Looks like you made it to item 5 before you stopped following them.

Thank You,

I found it. Sorry for the confusion.

Thats OK as I stated I am not a Gnome Expert and most likely my instructions could have been presented in a better way for a Gnome user to follow them and I apologize for any confusion I may have created. What I do want to hear is that all of this has helped you fix your problem.

Thank You,

Problem is solved. THANKS A LOT.

Yea! Great news to hear suse_kid and I was happy to be of help.

Thank You,
