When will GIMP 2.8 be added to openSUSE repository?

Currently, my openSUSE 12.1 is using GIMP from the repositories, but if the new 2.8 isn’t going to be added for a while, I’ll uninstall and just self-install the new one. Anyone know how I can find out the ETA?

you’ll find RC1 in OBS:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/MargueriteSu:/gimp-2.7/openSUSE_12.1/

it works well and got recently updated. the splash still says “RC1”;
haven’t checked how far away it’s from the final version, but don’t think
it’s much.

since we’re on the forums, a disclaimer: this is beta software, not
stable, and not from any official openSUSE repo. it might create havoc,
eat your pets, and do anything else you can imagine – or it might not and
run a perfectly stable GIMP 2.8, as it does for me and a few others i know
of. not sure if it can peacefully exist alongside 2.6, but i doubt that.

(installing GIMP from that repo, you’ll have to add or replace a few other
lib.s from there, too. i didn’t switch over everything, since that wasn’t
required, and i really don’t know much about that home project.)

Right but that’s the RC1. The full final version 2.8 has now been released.

Hi
And the released 2.8 version requires a later glib not in 12.1.
Marguerite Su has done some patching to get it working with the older
version. Still waiting to find out if patching like that is acceptable
or not…

right; and my bet is that the home project i mentioned will be the first
one with the full release (may be mistaken, of course).

and i believe that there’s not much difference between the full release
and this RC1 – so little that using it you won’t notice a difference. but
you’re welcome to wait for the full release, of course.

i used to build GIMP 2.7.x from git master, until well into RC1. but then
they changed requirements again, so that now, apart from separatly
compiling GTK, babl, and gegl, i also would have had to compile the whole
glib thing in my #prefix. at that point i stopped, and switched over to
marguerite su’s project.

i’ve been following GIMP development for the last year or more, and
there’s no new functionality or such that’s available with the new glib
version. that requirement came long after new functionality and procedures
stopped being introduced into the 2.8 release.

Any plans for making Gimp 2.8 available for Suse 11.4 64 bit?
