postfix problem

Hi to all,
I’m having problem with postfix.
I can recieve emails but I can’t send. I’m getting an error
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

  Subject:	sdfsdf
  Sent:	4/19/2012 4:16 PM

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

  'info@mydomain.lt' on 4/19/2012 4:16 PM
        554 5.7.1 <info@mydomain.lt>: Relay access denied

But I can send email to info@mydomain.lt from info@mydomain.lt but i’m dont getting it…

What I wonder is why you are surprised that it does not work. You can not
send from/to invented domains, because mydomain.lt does not exist in internet.

Hi robin,
I just changed to mydomain.lt for security purpose, my domain is another

What the ‘relay access denied’ error message tells you is that your
domain isn’t authorized to connect to that SMTP server. You have to have
permission from your ISP to send from a particular domain, you can’t
just choose anything you want. The precaution is designed to stop
spammers exploiting the SMTP server.

where should I do that? in postfix/main.cf file? I have added domain name there and IP adress

Then please say so, because what domains you use in reporting a postfix
problem is crucial.

Ok, look for entries in the mail log around the time when you post. Put
them here, in code tags, and say clearly which domains you faked for
posting here. I prefer seeing “faked.domain.co” or equivalent.

If I understand the original post, there is no problem relaying through postfix running on the local machine. The problem is relaying through the next SMTP server. Troubleshooting should start with how that next SMTP server’s security settings are configured. Until you have that everything else is not useful.

That would be shown in the log. I prefer looking at the mail log instead of
guessing - and having faked domain names and not knowing it doesn’t help.

There could be many different reasons for denying the relay. I want to know
what is in the from address, in the to, who is the relay, and who is the
server. I want to know the domains used for all those four parts, I want to
know if they are real, solvable domains, or invented domains; and if the
names are faked for the purpose of this post I want to know that as well.

And I do not want to give a speech on what errors can there be based on
each of those four, blind.

From having a quick look, raised the question, how many domains do you have?, just the one?, it seems to me that you have a domain domain.name that you also have added to the virtual domains, so postfix gets confused.

You have domain.name in the resource (for example a MySQL database) referenced in the virtual_mailbox_domains directive in /etc/postfix/main.cf AND in the mydestination line (also in /etc/postfix/main.cf)! This doesn’t work. You can list domain.name either in virtual_mailbox_domains or in mydestination, but not in both.

Please correct this and restart Postfix:

/etc/init.d/postfix restart

That did a trick, now I can recieve emails from everybody but I can send just locally, I mean eg. my email is info@mydomain.com I can send to info@mydomain.com but can’t sent to others for example gmail.com and so on, having this error :
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

        554 5.7.1 <xxxxx@xxxxx.lt>: Relay access denied

I managed to fix this error too. Just checked “My outgoing server requires authentication” and now I can send to @gmail.com but after some time mail is getting back

Your mail system is way more complex than what you hinted on your initial
posts. You have dovecot with mysql, and virtual domains - that’s big.

And the logs do not contain proof of the problem you reported then, but
other problems instead. I see some mails appearing out of nowhere, the
entry point must be outside of the scope of the log shown.

You have probably defined in amavis.conf that you want to use clamavd, but
the service “clamd” is not running, or both have defined a different socket.

Then you have the problem that “pasaporte” mentions.

There is this curious one:

There is an email (766AFC0A46) that was sent to user “info” that is bounced
because the user does not exist, and is bounced. Spam perhaps? Then there
is the bounce message (ABB06C0A45) from the other, which is also bounced?
because “maileris.lt” does not exist - but the domain exist, so you have
another problem there.

But the problem you reported in your first post is not shown here.

It would be interesting to see the logs pertaining to that attempt. I can
only guess generally what may be happening.

Thanks to all, I have fixed it too, it was a problem with /etc/resolv.conf ( bad namesevers )
